Walter E. Washington Convention Center Events in August

  • MBSYEB (8/1-8/3) – The company George Worrell Style, LLC is looking to empower students in the MBSYEB with the tools they need to stand out to potential employers. This includes enhancing their skills, attitude, and personal knowledge on how to present their best selves. The theme? “Real style starts from within.”
  • Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton’s Annual Job Fair (8/2) – This job fair is being sponsored by Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton! Residents of D.C. are welcome to come and participate. All attendees are required to bring proof of residency, however.
  • American Psychological Association (8/3-8/6) – The American Psychological Association, which is based here in Washington, D.C, is described as “a scientific and professional organization that represents psychology in the United States.” The APA is the largest association of psychologists in the world with over 150,000 members.
  • Social Entrepreneurship Training Program (8/7) – This social entrepreneurship training program is free to the youths of D.C. and is being hosted by The GoodProjects. In this program, youths will connect virtually with students in China. Together, they will work to develop a business model.
  • OTAKON 2017 Annual Convention (8/11-8/13) – This convention is the top one for the otaku generation. Hosted by fans and made for the fans, this convention is a massive celebration of Japanese manga, animation, J-pop, and east Asian culture as a whole.
  • Annual Friendship Institute Training (8/16) – This training is being hosted by Friendship Public Charter School, the largest community of public charter schools in the District of Columbia. They serve over 4,000 students in grades from pre-k to 12.
  • American Chemical Society’s Fall National Convention (8/21-8/23) – This national meeting is five days of discussing tutorials, symposia, and contributed paper sessions that cover chemistry, chemical engineering, and the related sciences. These expositions will feature nearly 300 companies who are ready to show their latest in instruments, publications, computer hardware, scientific software, and other professional aids.
  • Ubiquitous Hair Health and Beauty Expo (8/26-8/27) – Two days of information, commerce, and entertainment—all being hosted by The Ubiquitous Hair & Health Trade Show! The purpose of this trade show is to help women embrace who they are. The group is expecting over 85 booths, all hosted by the top hair, health, and beauty brands today. The event will also feature famous entertainers, discussion forums, prizes, contests, and more.
  • Community Empowerment Weekend (8/26) – This weekend is centered on providing resources for family activities for the largest East African and Ethiopian community in the District of Columbia metro. The events coordinators say that there will be pavilions and activities to “engage families with the information they need to live productive lives and thrive.” There will be entertainment, as well as learning opportunities for arts, finance, health, technology, and education. All exhibitors will be showcasing their products and services all day.
  • 2017 WoodWorks Wood Solutions Fair (8/29) – WoodWorks is a company that was established to give free technical support, education, and resources to help design both nonresidential and multi-family wood buildings. Their field teams are experienced and knowledgeable when it comes to all sorts of building types, including schools, commercial buildings, corporate, franchises, retail, public, institutional, mid-rise/multifamily, and more. Their objective is “to make it easier to design, engineer, and construct wood buildings at less cost.”
